We are thrilled to announce that the Toronto Nomads Rugby Club has been approved by Rugby Ontario to run Rookie Rugby programs at Toronto elementary schools in 2016. This represents a huge opportunity for the Nomads as we continue to engage in our community and recruit the next generations of players. Our approval and selection as a Rookie Rugby club is largely attributable to the mighty efforts of Leanne Stillman and Mark Johnson from the junior club leadership team.
Approval was step 1. Step 2 was finding the right person for the job to run our Rookie Rugby program. That has been done too. Campbell MacNeill, the head coach of the women’s team has all the credentials, experience and time to deliver the program. Running from late April- June he will implement Rookie Rugby in 6-10 elementary schools and play a key role in engaging children/ families with the Nomads.
Step 3 is funding… this where you come in. Unfortunately, the program is not fully funded by Rugby Ontario/ Rugby Canada. Our estimate is that in order to deliver the program effectively the club needs to raise $9,000.
We are thankful to our outstanding long term sponsors including Nomads alumni and their companies; Mike Nailor of Nailor Industries, Robert Ogden & Terry Wallace of Penalta and Bernie Duff of the Rose & Crown, as well as our other repeating sponsors, The Carpenters Union, Hemingway’s, Sirco-Haas and Greenland Resources. However, as the complexity and costs associated with new programming increase so does our need for additional sources of funds.
There is no question that our club has a passionate and vocal community of supporters and alumni. Our commitment to rugby and the continued development of our club remains singular and unabated. It is in this spirit of long term development, rugby for all and a never ending passion to share our game that we are asking for your help.
There are a range of ways to help. Corporate sponsorship, individual donations or a combination are all welcome and much appreciated. Charitable tax receipts are available.
