U14 Boys & Girls

At the U14 level, rugby becomes more expansive and closely resembles the game seen on TV. U14s play 13 vs 13 on nearly a full field, with flankers being the two positions omitted. The rules around tackling and the breakdown are similar to older age groups, with fully contested rucks. The set piece is modified for safety as players acclimate to the scrum and lineout.

Coaching at this level emphasizes technical core skills such as catch/pass, tackling, ball handling in contact, and rucking, as well as tactical skills for attacking and defending space. At Nomads, the core World Rugby values of teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline, and sportsmanship are always highlighted.

Nancy is a Rugby Canada Level 2 certified coach. She began coaching with the Nomads in 2019, progressing to the juniors program where she trains the U14 girls & boys teams. Nancy played rugby for 13 years throughout high school, at Western University, and for Toronto clubs. Highlights include playing against Ireland’s women’s national team while on tour with Western, and club tours to the New York 7s tournament in Central Park. Nancy became a coach to pass on to her son and other young players a love of the game that has given her so many amazing experiences and friends. Her approach to coaching is to create a fun, welcoming environment that focuses on the well-being and positive development of the player, including the importance of sportsmanship and teamwork. The thing Nancy loves most about being a Nomad is its community and culture—from the volunteer coaches & managers to the players & their families, everyone is here to grow the game, learn, develop, and have fun.
